Kingdom Lifestyle

This modern day society has set us up to be fooled into believing waiting should be non existent. I could even go as far as to say I’ve seen some people get offended because they have to wait. These individuals are typically the same people who feel like they have to be like the energizer bunny; Going and going and going. They have to be moving in order to feel like they are worthy to exist. Every entertainment outlet advertises an instant gratification type of lifestyle.

How to make $10,000 in a month, how to own a million dollar company in a year, how to turn $50 to $5000 in a hour… I know y’all have seen similar ads. You may even attempted to take advantage of the offer. I mean, because who wouldn’t want to own a million dollar company. But these advertisers never go into detail about the background story of how they arrived at these accomplishments. Then, once you get yourself in the situation, you are instantly upset, disappointed, and ready to give up on life because you wanted to operate in your own will and on your own timing.

I won’t even front with you, when I was of the world I too was this same person. Living in what I like to call this “popcorn culture”, I fell into the enemy’s snare of making me believe that having a job and 3 side hustles was going to get me to a high level of success at the speed of light and if I didn’t have these things I was unworthy and not doing anything with my life. I wanted everything quick and fast because that’s the illusion the media and social media displays everyday. Then after a year, I became impatient which turned into anger which then turned into disappointment. I felt like um okay where is my yacht and Lamborghini at?!?!

Granted these outcomes do happen for some, I’m here to tell you that God’s timing is nothing like the sort. God is all about peace and patience and loves to take His time. Think about the Genesis of creation. He created the Heavens and Earth along with animals and man in 6 days. This is God we’re talking about. The Almighty who can make things happen in a blink of an eye and yet He decided to take His time in order for everything to be perfect in His eyes. God is the same way with the will He has for each of us. All we have to do is be patient.

An example is the story of Abraham and Sarah. God promised Abraham that Sarah would be the mother of all nations, however, she was impatient with waiting and decided to let Abraham have a baby with their maidservant. When she did finally conceive, she ended up making the maidservant and her child leave. Now I don’t know about back then because I wasn’t there, however, if that situation went down in today’s times I’m sure it would have all kinds of drama wrapped around it. Drama that could have been avoided had they waited on God’s timing.

God takes us through waiting periods in order to ensure that we are perfected in whatever accomplishment He has willed for our lives. It is in our waiting where our testimony is formed. It is also in our waiting that we stumble, maybe even fall and get back up again in order to learn as much as possible, that way, others seeking our same path are able to learn from what we experience so they won’t make the same mistakes. Who knows, you could be called to make the mistake in order to teach masses not to make the same mistake.

Today I want to give you three ways to embrace waiting in the allotted time God has for you:

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out. If we have food and clothing we will be content with these. But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

1 Timothy 6:6-10

When I used to scroll through social media I would always get this heavy feeling because of all the posts proving I live in a society that is comfortable with discontentment and actually want to share their discontentment with the world. I see constant complaints about children, spouses, leaders, and the different possessions people have, however, no one wants to express thanksgiving until November.

The only way to true contentment is through Christ. You must have faith that through Him you have all that you need and if you are to need anything more He will provide it for you. Being content with what you already have will save you money. You don’t need that new iPhone that just came out your iPhone still works like new. You don’t need that new Mercedes that is brand new on the car lot. Your car has been working fine and you probably get more miles to the gallon.

A way that helps me to stay in a state of contentment when I am feeling the urge of wanting more than what I already have is to think of the homeless. I think about the lack of others and how much joy they would have to even get a chance at owning what I currently own, I pray for them, then give thanks for all of what God has provided for me.

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?

Luke 16:10-12

A great deal of the reason why you are waiting on God could be that He is waiting for you to take care of what you already have. You may be wanting God to provide a way for you to buy a new car but you drive it around like it’s a dump truck full of trash. You may be wondering why you aren’t able to purchase a house and yet you are mismanaging the house that you rent. Or maybe you are waiting on God to bring you an angel of a spouse yet you act like you came from the pits of Hades.

Take care of your car like it is the brand new car you are wanting to possess. Take care of that house or apartment you are currently occupying like it is your dream home. Be the type of person you want to attract in your life. Show God that you are ready and willing to be a good steward over the blessing he is about to place in your life.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

A great motto I always reference in regards to being grateful is, “When you are waiting for a door to open, praise in the hallway.” A lot of times we can get discouraged in our waiting period and forget to be thankful for being exactly where we are. Even if it’s just being grateful to be breathing and seeing another day. Be thankful that you have the opportunity to go after whatever it is that you are seeking.

Give thanks for the small accomplishments you are achieving along the way. Give thanks for the moments you feel defeated. No one fails if they don’t give up; We learn. Therefore, give thanks for the lessons and blessings that have already occurred so that God knows He will get all the glory when you receive the specific blessing you are waiting for.

Contentment, Good stewardship, and Thanksgiving will make your time of waiting feel like a worthy journey. My hope is that in the low times you think of this post and begin to ponder on all you already have, be thankful for it, and that you pray your way through the low emotions you are feeling. Stay patient. God’s plans is always worth waiting for. Remember God took the Hebrews through the wilderness for 40 years due to complaining and turning away from Him and they died there. Never even got to touch their promised land.
